FINAL RESULTS
Dorado, PR (Apr.4,2012) - After 54 holes of competitive golf at this year's Junior Amateur Championship, 16-year old Sebastian Toro (224) emerged as the 2012 Junior Amateur Champion and winner of the Hank James Trophy. Presented by SEARS and hosted by Dorado Beach Resort & Golf Club, this year's championship was the 27th edition for the Boys Championship and the18th year for the Girl's Championship organized by the Puerto Rico Golf Association.
With a 1-under par final score of 71 strokes, Toro led the field at 18 & Under Boys category by seven strokes over fellow competitor, Andrew Baez (231) who was the runner-up. Third place was accomplished by Joito Cardona (235), who played in this category for the first time. Three strokes behind finished 2011 defending champion, Fico Thon (238) who came in fourth after struggling with his game thru all three rounds.
Maria Torres repeated as the Girls Junior Amateur Champion for third consecutive year with a 54-hole score of 227 strokes, over Paola Robles who was the runner-up at 231 and Gabriela Santini (251) who came in third palce. Marife joined Kyle Roig and Sasha Medina as the only three female golfers who have won the Junior Amateur Championship title three consecutive years. For Robles it was her last event and ferwell to the PRGA Junior Program as she will be entering college in the fall.
